Best Places to Stay in Hakha

Hakha is a sprawling city clinging precariously along a series of rocky hills. Spend time meandering the streets and absorbing its unique culture.

Visit Mahaganyan Monastery, a monastery university housing thousands of monks. Each morning tourists gather here to watch the ‘thousand monks’ meal. It’s spectacular. There’s also a small market selling chin traditional clothes and bags.

They can organise transport for you and there is a tea shop closed to the guesthouse (Yangon Teashop) that sells good tea and fried rice for a cheap price.

There is a daily bus from Falam to Hakha (1pm, 3,000 kyats/person) as well as a mini van which takes a bit longer. It’s also possible to go there by train, though this is a more difficult and time consuming option.

Located in the heart of Hakha, this stylish hotel offers a variety of room types to suit any traveler’s needs. The food is quite reasonably priced and the waiters are all smartly dressed and clean.

This teashop follows Chinese style as it offers a large variety of snacks with the tea like steamed buns, baked cakes, noodles, and pastries. In fact, it’s a custom in Myanmar to have a snack with the tea. It also has a colorful history, as it was close to Yangon University during the 1988 student protests and students hid here from police and soldiers.
